This month at The Little Wings Foundation
September 2008
In the last three months The Little Wings Foundation has been working on solidifying the Eritrea Clubfoot Initiative. Clubfoot is the most common single deformity leading to disability in the world. Our program, run by Tewelde Isaac has expanded to two outpatientclinics within Asmara. The aim is to make this project grow with the support of the Ministry of Health. Dr Sinclair was able to meet the Health Minister Mr Saleh Meky and the Director of Clinical Service to discuss how a countrywide Clubfoot program could be implemented in the future.
In addition The Little Wings Foundation was able to attend the Clubfoot clinic and improve coordination with the local Program director, Tewelde Isaac.
It is the aim of the foundation to offer training and teaching experiences to healthcare workers. For the first time a tutorial course ans workshop on clubfoot treatment took place in the capital. The interest in the course was overwhelming with 91 participants. The course was endorsed by the Minitry of Health and covered in the local media. Courses like these will bring us closer to the goal of erradicateing untreated clubfoot in Eritrea.
September will also be an important month for all volunteers in Dubai as we have Anas from Hebron for treatment in Dubai. Another child will follow in October.
For our surgical missions we were able to aquire a basic surgical instrument kit. The surgical instruments available to all surgeons supportiung the Foundation will facilitate complex orthopaedic surgey in remote areas. We are excited about this, as it will benefit the childen in future surgical missions.
Our major fundraising activity for the coming month will be the Desert Challenge. Mark Fourie a participant in one of the toughest Cross Country Rallies has decided to use this forum to further highlight the efforts of The Little Wings Foundation as the recipient of funds generated by completing the stage events that make up the UAE Desert Challenge.
