Background
Launched in 1991 by Mohammed Ben Sulayem, the Arab world's legendary rally star and a sporting ambassador for the Arab world, the UAE Desert Challenge is a breathtaking experience that is savoured by champions and enthusiasts alike. The Desert Challenge is the final round of the 2008 FIA Cross Country Rally World Cup and the 2008 FIM Cross Country Rallies World Championship. Based in Dubai, which is also the venue for the super special stage as well as the rally's finishing point, the event has its ceremonial start in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi. From there, the rally sends a multi-national procession of cars, trucks and bikes on a spectacular five-day journey across some of the most dramatic and demanding desert terrain on earth. For four nights, the event is based at the Moreeb Hill bivouac, close to the Liwa oasis, and special stages stretch out into the legendary Empty Quarter, or Rub Al Khali, providing drivers and riders with an exhilarating test of skill and endurance.

The volunteers also had a small display of the material required for one clubfoot cast so that the children could see where their money would be going. With the upcoming trip to Eritrea to launch the clubfoot programme, the volunteers were trying to raise more funds to purchase cast material.
